I’m just a little bit excited to be welcoming clinical hypno-psychotherapist, bodyworker and mind body medicine coach, Leigh Milne, to Marnie Downer Health.

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a form of complementary therapy that utilises the power of positive suggestion to bring about subconscious change to our thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

There is no ‘look into my eyes’, ‘cluck like a chicken’, ‘oogabooga’ involved in hypnotherapy! It is simply a deep state of relaxation.

Hypno-psychotherapy

A hypno-pscyhotherapist differs from a hypnotherapist in that they will have undertaken training in psychotherapy theory and practice. This integrative approach utilises both techniques to help with deeper problems that may not be able to be addressed with hypnotherapy alone (for example, trauma or abuse).

Some of the mind body medicine techniques Leigh employs are:

  • Hypno-psychotherapy
  • Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT)
  • Hypnotic virtual gastric band (great for people who are having trouble losing weight)
  • Hypnotic suggestions and hypno-analysis
  • Meditations and visualisations
  • Emotional freedom technique (EFT)
  • Transpersonal past life regression
  • Time-line hypnosis
  • Somatic psychotherapy
  • Art therapy

As well as holding qualifications in psychology and psychotherapy, Leigh is currently undertaking post graduate studies in Sexology at Curtin University so that she can expand her research and further enhance her skills helping couples with low libido, sexual problems and intimacy related issues.

What happens in a session?

Before you come to see Leigh, you will be given a form to fill in. Take your time with this. It will really help you to get clear on your goals and provide you both with some valuable insights into your overall health.

Next…come to your appointment, lie down, relax and let Leigh weave her magic. Don’t worry if you doze off – your subconscious mind is listening.

Leigh tapes the session so you can listen to it as a meditation afterwards to really help cement your new, healthy habits.

Leigh is available for individual sessions and some group work for a wide range of issues, including;

  • Smoking

  • Chronic pain

  • Trauma

  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Lack of motivation (yes please)

Issues can be addressed using clinical hypno-psychotherapy in as little as 1-6 sessions. These can take place over a number of months. Personally, I found that three sessions worked a treat.
