Dreading the winter months?

The common cold strikes many people every year, especially during these cold months. Many people often dread the winter, not because of the cold, windy, wet weather, but because they suffer terribly with the symptoms of the flu or common cold. Keeping your immune system healthy by eating a well balanced diet and taking natural supplements can assist your body’s natural immune function and get you through the winter months without suffering those terrible cold and flu symptoms.

Stuff that ‘stuffs’ with your immunity.

  • Nutrient deficiencies
  • Poor work/life balance
  • Not enough sleep
  • STRESS (the usual suspect).

Work on improving these and your ability to fight infection will dramatically improve

Flu shot or not?

Hmmm. This is a tricky one.  Should you, shouldn’t you? Each year vaccine developers take a guess at which flu they think is going to turn up on our shores and make an appropriate vaccine. More often than not they will look to China to see what is doing the rounds there. That means when you get a flu shot, you are only protected against one very specific virus.
There are many, many types of flu virus. If the scientists get the strain wrong,  you are no better off than if you didn’t get the shot.

Clever clogs:
The flu virus is a cheeky chap – it can change its surface proteins to avoid detection by your immune system, a bit like a change of clothes. If the flu you catch decides to change its outfit your body fails to recognise it.

An immune vaccine only lasts about a year, which is why it’s recommended you get the shot each year (if you decide to do so).

Are you getting more colds than you are used to? Is it taking you longer to recover? Or, are you picking up every little bug that does the office rounds? Sounds like your immune system could do with some love and care, not a jab in the arm!
